Golf's most advanced Putting Instruction by Geoff Mangum...

Clinics for Teaching Pros & Formal Golf Schools
 Active Image

Geoff Mangum teaches the teachers in golf. Golf teachers have always concentrated almost exclusively upon teaching the full swing, and only rarely venture into putting instruction. Geoff Mangum offers to all teaching pros and also to the staff of formal golf schools a complete and systematic approach to the full range of putting skills. This package of instruction for head pros and staff instructors goes far beyond the “basics” for putting in the established PGA curriculum and training manuals, and is designed to equip teaching professionals with the knowledge and techniques for providing advanced putting instruction to balance out their existing programs.

Mangum has previously taught the staff at the David Leadbetter Junior Golf Academy in Bradenton, Florida, select staff from the Jim Mclean Golf School, and over 1,000 European teaching pros at their Teaching and Coaching Summit 2005 in Munich, Germany, including Hank Haney, Beverly Lewis, Ralph Mann, Randy Smith, Denis Pugh, Scott Cranfield and others. Since then, Mangum has taught PGA-accredited courses in England, Germany, Sweden, Spain, Norway, the US, and Canada, and has taught the national PGA for Switzerland, Holland, and the Czech Republic. At his German Academy in Adendorf outside Hamburg, Mangum has taught scores of teaching pros from top venues throughout Germany, Spain, Belgium, Switzerland, and elsewhere. In Canada, Mangum has taught the CPGA for Saskatchewan and holds clinics and certification programs with Bruce Howard and Steve Chapman in Ontario.  In the US, Mangum teaches college golf coaches and presents group clinics to teams.

The typical day-long presentation for golf teachers covers:
    1. The Four Fundamental Skills for Putting: reading putts for target, aiming the putter and body, stroking the ball where the putter face aims, and controlling the distance;
    2. Drills for Putting Skills: a collection of 55 specially designed drills for teaching the perceptions and movements in each of the four fundamental skills, integrating brain science with the best of traditional putting lore.
    3. Teaching and Learning Science: Best practices for assessing students, presenting instructional material for motor and cognitive learning, and for baselining, benchmarking, and recording performance data for permanent improvement.
    4. Putting Psychology: How the brain functions optimally for putting performance and how to handle stress, emotions, pressure, and issues of self in ways that protect and enhance optimal performance.
    5. Putting Equipment:  Criteria for selecting and fitting putters and for the effective use of training aids for permanent learning and improvement.

This program elevates the teaching of putting to equal or exceed the standard full-swing teaching, and redresses the gross imbalance in golf instruction -- a win-win situation for both the teachers and their golfers.
